Robert Welham

I am 17 years old, from Ipswich in Suffolk. I started karting in 2013 at Anglia Indoor Karting progressing through the YoungStarz Cadet Club at Red Lodge Karting before buying my own kart. In 2015 I obtained my MSA National Kart Licence and began racing at MSA National Level.

My most notable achievements in karting while working with Precision Racing Kart Team include: Sodi World Series British Champion 2015, SKRC Junior X30 Champion 2016, Junior TKM Super Prix Champion 2017, Junior TKM Britain’s Finest Winner 2017, Super One British KartingChampionships Junior TKM Rookie Champion 2017 and Super One British KartingChampionships seeded 5 in both Junior TKM in 2017 and TKM Extreme in 2018 from a grid of over 50 competitors.

I work hard to prepare for racing. I make sure that I maintain peak levels of fitness both on my own and with my personal trainer. I study footage of different race circuits, familiarising myself with the driving styles of my competition which helps me on race day. I also review videos of my own driving to assess where I can make improvements or see where I have got it right. I have also utilised the Izone Driver Performance Facility at Silverstone, taking advantage of their simulator, fitness suite and psychometric exercises.

I am extremely competitive and very much a perfectionist when it comes to my own performance!! I am dyslexic and have had to adjust my style of learning to cope analytically. I believe dealing with dyslexia in my younger years and being made to feel below standard played a massive part in my utter determination to succeed.

I am currently competing in the 365 Hosts F1000 Championship with Jedi Racing Cars and in 2019 hope to build on the progress made during 3 meetings in 2018 which included ‘Driver of the Meeting’ at Rockingham on my debut and a podium finish at Castle Combe.
